Use a hook-free yarn setup for separate side-arm casts. Let each cast settle on the grass before the next.
How to film it
- ✓ Lawn practice is perfect. No water needed; a scrap of yarn stands in for the fly
- ✓ Phone on a tripod at waist height, portrait, steady, no hand-held. Stand close enough to fill about a third of the frame, head to feet; below a sixth the clip is rejected
- ✓ Whole body in frame, and the rod tip too if you can manage it
- ✓ 3-6 false-cast cycles per clip beats one hero cast
- ✓ Casting-arm side toward the camera for the side view
- ✓ Normal frame rate at normal playback speed, no slow-motion export. We read the cast at 30 frames a second, so 60fps adds nothing, and a slowed-down clip reads as a slow stop
